Five candidates are in the running for the deanship of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering (COE). Two of them are currently professors at FSU and another was a candidate for the FSU presidency back in 2014.

One of the FSU professors is Bruce Locke. Locke is currently the interim dean of the FAMU-FSU COE. He was an associate provost at FSU before being appointed to that position by FAMU President Elmira Mangum and FSU President John Thrasher last year.

The second FSU professor is Emmanuel Collins. He is the chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the COE.

Former FSU presidential candidate J. Murray Gibson is also in the running. He is the former dean of the College of Science at Northeastern University. The FSU Board of Trustees chose Thrasher for the presidency rather than him in 2014.

The remaining two candidates are:

Samir M. El-Ghazaly, director of the Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems (ECCS) at the National Science Foundation and a distinguished professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Arkansas

Bamin Khomami, Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering Department Head at the University of Tennessee Knoxville

The presidents of FAMU and FSU must both agree on the joint appointment of a candidate before that individual can be hired to the permanent deanship.
